ecReUse Exchange with BCMM Delegation in Oldenburg

Members of the ecReUse project team met with representatives of Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) during a delegation visit to Oldenburg, Germany. The visit took place within the framework of the FKKP project between the City of Oldenburg and BCMM.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the current status of the ecReUse project, the ongoing proof-of-concept phase and the next steps for the joint operation of the pilot plants at the East Bank Wastewater Treatment Plant in East London. The ecReUse team was represented by Dr.-Ing. Manuel Krauss and Matthias Hirt from FiW, as well as Alea von Grote from TERRA URBANA.

The delegation visit brought together partners from BCMM, the City of Oldenburg, the Oldenburg-East Frisian Water Association (OOWV), Wupperverband, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Jade University of Applied Sciences and other participating institutions. The programme included workshops, project presentations and technical exchanges on energy efficiency, digitalisation, climate adaptation and sustainable water management.

The exchange in Oldenburg strengthened the German–South African cooperation in the field of municipal wastewater treatment and water reuse. For ecReUse, it provided valuable input for the upcoming project activities and underlined the importance of close collaboration between local operators, municipalities, research institutions and technology partners.
