ecReUse Pilot Plants Prefabricated and En Route to South Africa
Prefabricated Pilot Plants on Their Way to the Wastewater Treatment Site
The pilot plants developed in the ecReUse project have now been prefabricated in Germany and are on their way to South Africa. The shipment, including the MBR reactor, primary sedimentation tank with anaerobic digester, continuous sand filter, and camera-based monitoring system, is traveling by sea to the port of Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth).
Upon arrival, the pilot plants will be installed and integrated into the existing wastewater treatment process. This next phase will allow ecReUse partners to demonstrate optimized treatment processes, energy-efficient operation, and advanced resource recovery, while also providing training opportunities for local operators and stakeholders.
The successful transport of the prefabricated plants marks a key milestone in the project, bringing ecReUse closer to achieving its goal of sustainable and resilient wastewater management in the region.
